Concert in Remembrance
One of the most important events in our calendar, the band had the privilege of returning to St. Thomas’ Church, Salisbury to perform at our annual Concert in Remembrance in memory of those who have sadly lost their lives in conflict.
We were to once again delighted share the stage with the fantastic Salisbury Plain Military Wives Choir.
We welcomed Simon Badge, conductor and musician with the Royal Marines Band Portsmouth, as our conductor for the evening. Our first half consisted of varied array of music and featured a solo performance by our Flugelhorn player, Kevin Darby . We were also pleased to perform two works composed by our members who are both award-winning composers. We featured the very popular “Tokyo Sunset” by Richard Haydn-Taylor and the recently award winning march “Castell Beaumaris” by Andy Wareham.
Following an eclectic set of music from the Salisbury Plain Military Wives choir, we returned in the second half with reflective and traditional works related to peace and conflict. We showcased an array of repertoire from a collection famous “Glenn Miller” tunes, “With Quiet Courage”, the Theme from “Dambusters” and more!
We rounded off our the concert with a finale joint item, “Baba Yetu” (a translation of “The Lord’s Prayer” from the Swahili language) an epic cinematic music theme from Sid Mier’s “Civilisation” video games. The arrangement for brass band and choir was specially commissioned for the concert, with the band accompanying Salisbury Plain Military Wives Choir singing in the original Swahili lyrics!
It was reflective and poignant evening and we are looking forward to returning to St. Thomas’ once again next year.
We now look forward to our official Remembrance commemoration at our annual parade and service with the Royal British Legion at St. Birinus Church, Redlynch.
